MONITOR — Instant Moisture and Contaminant Control
MONITOR is a device developed by CTP (in Grenoble, France) that allows the operator to instantly and reliably measure moisture and contaminants in received waste paper bales. It addresses the increasing need for mills to systematically control the receipt of recovered fibers due to rising costs from decreasing bale quality.
Applications and Purpose
The MONITOR system is focused on immediate cost-saving control of incoming waste paper bales.
- Core Function: Instant and accurate measurement of both moisture content (Hr%) and undesirable contaminants (such as plastic or metals) in received bales.
- Benefits (ROI): Customers have achieved their Return on Investment in less than one year by preventing cost overruns due to fiber loss and managing waste.
- Process Integration: Easy installation on an existing core drilling machine.
Key Features & Highlights
The system is designed for automated, consistent, and operator-independent analysis.
- Distinct Advantages:
- Instant analysis of received bales and immediate result display.
- No manual handling or drilling required.
- The analysis is performed independent of the operators.
- The drilling operation is automatic and therefore always consistent.
- Analysis is done at core of the bale.
- Two Distinct Parts (Hardware):
- Drilling Machine: A machine that can drill bales either from a conveyor or directly from trucks. This system includes an optical sensor head positioned on the outlet tube of the drilling machine.
- Industrial Cabinet: Includes the spectrometer, the PC for spectrometer management, and the power/control electronics.
- Cost Savings Example: A measurement revealing a 1.2% excess moisture and 0.7% excess contaminants above standard (10% moisture, 1% contaminants) can prevent a significant annual cost overrun due to fiber loss and waste management loss.
